We are in a wonderful village in the Lindos’ area, on a hill, not far from the beach, in a place where tourism isn’t extreme.

Location:
The name of the village is Kalathos and it’s 4,5km off the town of Lindos and around 40 km off Rhodes city, capital of Dodecanese region. There are many direct buses to Rhodes town and Lindos. The surrounding area consists of unspoiled hills, you can stroll for hours through bushes, olive and almond trees without encountering one building outside the village. It’s better to have a car, but getting around with public transport is also possible.

It’s on a hill surrounded by olive trees, while the sea, the calm blue sea with its crystal clear waters, is just 800 m away.

The village: This is as traditional as it can get. There are about 150 people living in the village, most of them farmers, many of which still use donkeys as a mean of transport, but also some foreigner (Dutchmen, Brits, Australians and Italians) live in the village in up done houses. There are mini-markets, cafeterias, restaurants and rent a car at 300 m below in the main road village, but you can find all kinds of infrastructure in Archangelos, which is a 15-minute bus ride away.

The center of social life is the church and the cafeterias (always in the main road), where moustached old-fashion Greeks talk about politics sipping on ouzo. There is no archaeology in the village, only some old bakery oven, but you can find remains of the ancient walls and castles in various parts of the island.
